In-House Fabrication for CAT® Marine Engine and Generator Installations

Thompson Marine designs and fabricates custom integration packages in-house, covering mechanical, electrical, and control systems for CAT marine engine installations. Every package is engineered to the specific requirements of the vessel and the installation, without the delays or coordination gaps that come with outside fabrication.

What Thompson Marine Fabricates

Thompson Marine’s fabrication capability covers the full range of components required to integrate and commission a CAT marine engine system:

  • Custom pump packages designed and built to the specific requirements of the installation
  • Generator sets configured for the vessel’s power management needs
  • Hydraulic power packs engineered for propulsion and auxiliary system requirements
  • Compressor packages built to vessel specifications
  • Bases and mounts for engines, marine gears, and generators, fabricated to engine room footprint and structural requirements
  • Custom piping designed as part of the integration package, with supporting documentation including engine room layouts and mechanical installation drawings

Fabrication for Repowers

Repower projects require re-engineering mechanical and electrical systems within the constraints of an existing vessel. Thompson Marine’s fabrication team works alongside the engineering team to design and build integration-ready packages that align with existing engine room structures, minimize the need for structural modification, and interface correctly with onboard equipment and yard practices.

Emissions Upgrades

Thompson Marine fabricates custom packages to support CAT engine upgrades to current EPA Tier IV emissions standards, engineering the integration to fit within existing vessel structures while meeting current regulatory requirements.

Design Through Integration

Thompson Marine’s fabrication and engineering teams work as a single unit from initial design through installation and commissioning. Fabrication decisions are driven by engineering requirements, and every fabricated package is delivered with complete documentation, including engine room layouts, wiring schematics, and mechanical installation drawings specific to the project. That coordination means the vessel receives a purpose-built integration package, not a generic assembly adapted to fit.
