Shawn Lauer
Shawn Lauer is the Marine Engineering Manager at Thompson Marine, leading the in-house engineering team responsible for the design, integration, and commissioning of Caterpillar marine engine and Berg Propulsion systems for commercial vessels across the Gulf Coast and the Americas.

With more than 17 years of marine engineering experience, Shawn has served as engineering lead on a wide range of commercial and government vessel projects, including harbor tugs, hybrid harbor tugs, diesel-electric offshore supply vessels, U.S. Navy vessels, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers vessels, fishing trawlers, and pleasure craft. Across those projects, he has provided electrical and mechanical engineering oversight covering propulsion systems, power generation, and pump packages from initial design through installation.
At Thompson Marine, Shawn sits at the intersection of customers, shipyards, and vessel designers, ensuring that engineering solutions meet vessel requirements and are correctly integrated during installation. His work spans new builds, repowers, retrofits, and the complex hybrid propulsion systems that define some of Thompson Marine’s most technically demanding projects.
A graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering Systems, Shawn also served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. This combination of academic foundation, military service, and commercial marine project experience is central to the engineering capability Thompson Marine brings to every project.
